Graphic organizers are such a great tool for any student, and I believe that they are essential when teaching ELLs. Visual cues are a better tool for ELLs, whether they are used to present information to the student or for the student to organize their thinking, using small amount of words when doing so. I think they take of the pressure if you will when a student is first reading. They are a great tool especially when the student works in groups, because they get to participate and feel they are part of the bigger product. As they are learning to use the organizers, they become more proficient not only at understanding how to use the GO but as using the information they gather to generate an essay.
