Week 4, Assignment 2

As far as reading accuracy, self correction and error rate, I think the student did very well. The student is definitely monitoring his/her own reading, and has fluency when he/she reads. The student did get stuck/lost at the beginning of the reading, mostly because she lost her place, and afterwards used her finger to follow the reading, which is a good strategy. The teacher will focus on tenses, live/lived, also on -ough (through, though) ending words, and also on -in (fins), she seemed to struggle on that a bit. When the student was asked to retell, she started being stuck on one particular portion - how they are born, but with further prompting was able to recall details from the reading, used an appropriate number of words/terms from the passage, followed the correct sequence, and lastly seemed to have a complete understanding of the text when expressing the similarities and differences between the species.

  1. I agree, the student was overall able to get through reading the entire passage despite experiencing a few stumbling blocks along the way. Considering how young she is, it's still impressive nonetheless. However, I feel her retelling abilities is where she shined the most.
